Guess what? I’m in Canada! Vancouver, specifically. We’re here for SHUX, the Shut Up and Sit Down Board Gaming Expo! Very exciting.
You know I’ve been surprised at how well I’ve been dealing with the time change. It’s three hours behind the East Coast, so as I write this my computer says 3pm, but the clock on the wall and the clock in my head both agree that it’s noon. Suffice to say, I’m glad to have avoided the jet lag. Hopefully *fingers crossed* I’ll be able to stave it off when we fly back to NH.
So in about 3 hours Katie and I will be going through our orientation for the convention, and then I suspect the next few days will be a whirlwind of activity. That said, we’ve been able to incorporate some much-needed downtime into our stay. We walked through the Chinese Gardens, explored Granville Island, and had lunch in a wonderful Japanese-style cafe. This morning, instead of going out and about, we resolved to take it slow, read, write, and draw. It’s been wonderful.
I’ve been reading a biography of Fred Rogers – AKA, Mr. Rogers, called The Good Neighbor by Maxwell King. It’s been very inspiring to read about the life of a man who was so passionate about the well-being of others. I think I would be luck to have even a quarter of his drive for anything, honestly.
So once this week is over, I’m hoping to get into a more regular schedule – my ducks in a row, as the saying goes. Now that I’ve gone Per Diem at my old job, I can aim to incorporate more writing and production into my weeks, and hopefully kindle some of that ever-fleeting passion. In order to get back into the swing of it, I’m intending to participate once again in NaNoWriMo – something I haven’t done in several years. I also intend to get back into a more regular update schedule here (wish me luck).
That’s about it, folks. I’ll try to post some of my photos once we get back home.
