New Year, New Goals!

Happy New Year, folks!

I’m gonna keep this quick because there’s a huge storm here in New Hampshire, and I’m not sure if our power is going to get knocked out. As is customary when a new year rolls around, Aiden and I talk about what we’ve accomplished in the past year and what we want to accomplish in the coming year. This past year, we have:

  • Dedicated ourselves to keeping up this blog!
  • Worked on fleshing out our characters for the “Prism” story and figuring out the big plot threads
  • Started creating and posting episodes of our story podcast, “Lulach Beryl: Magical Intern”, which you can start listening to right over here!
  • Tried our hand at food vlogging in Portland and had a lot of fun, but sadly decided we don’t have the time for it at this moment.

Individually, I have had a couple really successful freelance art jobs that I learned a lot from and thoroughly enjoyed! Aiden has been reading various books on storytelling and writing, and it’s definitely shown in his writing. I’m so excited for you all to hear the episodes of Lulach that he’s been writing lately, they’re awesome!

We have big plans for Something Brewing Press in 2018! Both for the blog and for us as creators. Some things we’re going to try:

  • We’re going to have a better focus for the blog – Aiden will write about stories he’s been influenced by in books, video games, movies, etc. and how they helped him grow as a writer, and I’ll be doing the same with print comics and webcomics!
  • We’re going to get more episodes of Lulach Beryl published!
  • I’m going to do more freelance art jobs and enter some writing and comics contests!
  • We’re going to get the master outline for “Prism” finished! Aiden will start writing the story itself, and I will hammer out finalized character designs.
  • We’re going to try a different sort of vlog! More on that later, when we’ve started working on it more concretely~
  • I have a couple nonfiction comics projects I’m going to be launching, and I’m going to continue working on developing my slice-of-life comic “Maisie’s Diner”!

We’ve got big things a-brewing (see where we got our name? eh? eh?) and we’re so excited to share it with all of you!

What are some things you’re proud you accomplished last year? What are some things you’re working on this year?

Stay safe and warm!

  1. Hey Katie!
Great blog post! I didn’t know you had one of these! Super cool. πŸ™‚
I haven’t decided what I plan on working on this year yet but have thought about things i’d like to continue doing such as:
    – Advancing my current career
    – Picking up a new hobby
    – Learning a new trade
Just a few things I’ve thought about so far! I’d love to connect in person more about your blog as I may be interested in starting up a blog myself. You’re so cool!
    Stay warm and safe!

  2. Hi Kaley!

Thanks very much! Aiden and I started it to keep ourselves accountable to our creative goals, and it’s been really fun so far. I’m excited for the year ahead!

Your goals sound awesome! I’m curious, what hobbies and trades have you been considering? I like to dabble in lots of things, so I’d love to hear about them!

That would be great! I’d be happy to chat over coffee or tea πŸ™‚ Thank you for your kind words!

I hope you stay warm and safe as well, it sounds crazy outside!

  3. I would love to learn how to knit things! I have always admired those who could make things with their hands and a few craft supplies! I would also love to learn more about cooking! I tend to stick to the same recipes and I love learning new ones. I received a recipe case for Christmas and only has a couple recipes to place inside. The more the merrier!

I’d love a cup of coffee or tea! We should connect next week! Maybe Monday?

Stay safe and warm! It is definitely cold outside!

    1. Ooh, if it’s knitting you’re wanting to learn, I could certainly help with that! I’m no expert by any means, but I have the basics down pat, if I do say so myself πŸ™‚ That’s awesome that you’re aiming to branch out and learn different recipes and new ways of cooking! I must admit, Aiden is more of the cook than I am – he’s very intuitive in the kitchen and he always makes tasty things. I tend to be more of a baker! I like precise measurements and being able to retrace my steps so I can see what happened if I mess up.

Monday might be tricky – I’m taking flex hours that day, so I’ll be out of the office by noon and I’ve got a handful of calls lined up. When we do meet, would you like to meet after work at a coffee shop somewhere or would you like to meet on a break somewhere in the Millyard? It’s up to you, I’m down for whatever!

How excited were you when you discovered we had a SECOND work-from-home day?? It was so nice! Have a lovely weekend!
