Hey Readers,
Aiden here. I honestly don’t have too much to say, and I think we can all agree that’s alright sometimes.
I’ve been trying to expand both my, I guess, theoretical as well as practical understanding of writing. One way I’ve attempted this is by listening to a podcast called “Writing Excuses,” which is a marvelous discussion-based production starring several authors, the most notable of which is Brandon Sanderson, of Mistborn, Stormlight Archive, and final Wheel of Time books fame.
They go over all manner of topics relevant to writing, both large (plot, setting) and small (clothing, monsters, food in your stories), and they tend to finish with a writing prompt or “homework assignment.” Amusingly, the first two I listened to this week had prompts that for various reasons I was totally incapable of doing. The one I listened to today, however, was quite fun and had an entertaining exercise at the end.
It felt good to flex those writing muscles, even though I don’t think the prompt will ever become anything. Its just good to know I can do it, you know?
What have you been doing in your lives to strengthen a skill? I’d love to know.
Aiden.
